For over 20 years AGVSPORT has been the official brand of leathers for Keith Code’s California Superbike School.  Leathers are provided to both school coaches and students, as well as guest instructors. Kevlar

AGV Spots Group products are designed “by riders for riders,” which means that they know what motorcycle enthusiasts want.  They know that most riders want the ultimate in protection so that they can stay safe. On the other hand, there are days when riders would prefer gear that looks casual and can be worn comfortably.   

The AGV Sports line of denim jeans that utilize Kevlar panels are perfect for these situations.  The Assault, Excursion, Midnight, and Shadow fit and look like a normal pair of jeans when off the bike, and they also feature Kevlar panels to keep the rider safe on the bike.

The story behind Kevlar is actually quite interesting. It was discovered by Stephanie Kwolek in anticipation of a gasoline shortage in 1964. At the time Kwolek was working for DuPont, and researching a new light yet strong fiber to use for fuel efficient tires.  After only six years of further research and designs changes, Kevlar was introduced to the world in 1971.

Kevlar currently has hundreds of applications, however there are some that are a bit more relevant to most people’s everyday lives.  Kevlar actually lines the inner tubing of the majority of bicycle tires in order to prevent puncturing.  The synthetic is also used in an abundance of protective Army gear, such as helmets, gloves, vests, and vehicle armor. Kevlar vests can even protect the user from multiple knife attacks. 

The synthetic also provides homeland security agents with protection against chemical and biological germs.  Most importantly, for motorcycle riders at least, Kevlar is used in protective clothing.  As mentioned before all four pairs of AGVPOSRT denim jeans utilize Kevlar panels to provide protection against tearing and abrasion.

Kevlar is so useful in motorcycle safety apparel because it is playable and can form to the rider’s body. It is also used because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio. Basically, this means that Kevlar is strong, really strong, like five times stronger than medal.

History of AGV Helmets

AGV is an acronym for Amisano Gino Valenza, the initials of the founder AGV Helmets, which is one of the most respected manufactures of on and off-road helmets. The company was first introduced to the world in 1946, but at that time they were manufacturing bicycle saddles and leather seats.  Only two years later the company entered into the helmet manufacturing market. 

In only their second year of operation, AGV Helmets introduced the first open-face helmet with a leather shell. In 1953, the first fiberglass vulcanized helmets were brought to the market.  The company’s next big innovation came only one year later, in the form of the first 100% fiberglass open-face helmet. The development of the open-face helmet ultimately lead to the creation of the first fiberglass full-face helmet. Although innovation within manufacturing is the company’s ultimate goal, they were also fully committed to giving back to the motorcycle community.  In 1977, they funded the “Clinica Mobile,” which provides care to riders who have been injured while racing. More than 30 years later, the “traveling Hospital” is still providing excellent care to injured riders.

In 1985, Nelson Piquet raced the Formula 1 World Championship sporting a brand new Kevlar/Dupont fiberglass full-face AGV helmet. At this point in time AGV Helmets was looking to expand into additional markets. They accomplished this with the acquisition of MDS, which was a brand that quickly gained popularity based on its versatility.  In 1995, Valentino Rossi began wearing AGV Helmets on his way to winning seven World Championship Titles. This relationship provided AGV Helmets with a great ambassador to World Championship motorcycling racing.

In 2002 AGV Helmets became part the IMAG group, which is the fourth largest worldwide producer of helmets.  AGV Helmets last major merger came in 2007, when they combined with the world famous Dainese.

AGV Sport Tempest Jacket Review

One of the first things you will notice about AGV Sports Tempest Textile Jacket is that the quality is much higher than you would expect from a jacket at its price. This jacket is also very comfortable when in the riding position. Accordion style pleats are incorporated into the elbows, shoulders, and back for increased mobility.

The AGVSPORT tempest does not have a removable liner; instead the water resistant Reissa membrane is sewn into the shell. Although the membrane does not make the jacket 100% waterproof in torrential downpours, it will keep the rider dry in periods of light to moderate rain. 

Another nice feature of the Tempest is the insulated liner, which really does keep a rider warm in cooler conditions. As the temperatures begin to rise throughout the day the liner can be easily removed and stored in a backpack. While on the subject of warmer temperatures AGV Sports Tempest Textile Jacket is well ventilated, and the mesh lining is great for temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s. 

As with all AGVSPORT products the Tempest was built with performance and protection in mind. This jacket includes well shaped CE-approved dual-density elbow and shoulder protection. The backside also includes a pocket that comes with an 8 mm back foam protector. If you are not a huge fan of the back protector it can be easily removed. 

Another feature the Tempest has is a zipper attachment in the rear that is designed to fit the AGV Sport Telluride pants. Overall, the Tempest is a really well designed practical jacket.  It will work in a wide range of temperatures and provide a good fit at the same time. Between everything mentioned above and the $200 price tag; the Tempest is a great value.

Racer Support program

A competition support program is being offered to qualified racers by AGV Sports Group. The program offers support to racers competing in on-road and off-road motorcycling racing, watercraft, and go-carts. If racers qualify, they may be eligible to participate in contingency programs, as well as receive reduced prices on all AGVSPORT products.

The racer support program aims to reduce the cost of racing for privateers, as well as provide special purchases of top quality racing apparel.  Racers participating in this program may be eligible for direct product sponsorship depending on media coverage attained, the image portrayed, and individual performances. Posted contingencies will also be available based on individual performance. In order to be considered for posted contingencies, racers must be enrolled in the racer support program.

The products that are purchased via this program are intended for use by the registered racer only. Deviation from this policy will result in a termination of prior agreements. We reserve the right to refuse any order from any selected rider.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. The application form must be completed. This form must also be signed in order to validate the agreement. The use of the riders’ photographs for press releases or advertisements are released by signing this agreement.

2. AGVSPORT patches must be displayed on leather suits, and AGVSPORT decals must be displayed on motorcycle.

3. A photocopy of all applicable licenses for the sport which the racer is competing in MUST be submitted.

4. Orders can be placed through the Racer Support Services Competition only. 

AGV Sport Venus Leather Jacket Review

The AGV Sport Venus Leather Jacket remains true to size according to AGV Sports sizing charts.  One of the first things noticed about the Venus is it is definitely not a smaller version of the men’s cut.  The rounded seems in a woman’s top (princess seams) allow the jacket to conform to the figure of a woman’s body.  The Velcro wrists tabs in addition to the pre curved arms allow for a perfect fit in the sleeves.

This jacket was also designed with maximum airflow in mind. The zippered chest intake vents in addition to the back exhaust air vents provided great airflow.  There are also pieces of leather sewn underneath the arms in the 100% polyester mesh lining to prevent ripping.

The idea behind these jackets is protection, and the AGV Sport Venus Leather Jacket does not cut corners when it comes to safety. The jacket is constructed of 1.1-1.3mm thick leather, with the thicker leather being placed in high impact areas. The main seams on the jacket are double stitched to avoid tearing, and there is also CE approved elbow and shoulder armor in addition to a 1 cm thick foam back pad for added protection.

One of the most important things when riding is nighttime visibility, the AGV Sport Venus Leather Jacket does not disappoint when comes to this.  AGV Sport has placed 3M reflective piping in the front and back of the jacket which becomes bright when it is struck by car lights.

The AGV Sport Venus also includes a waist connection for a pair of pants, which provides great protection for the lower back. If the zipper that the jacket comes with does not fit your favorite pair of riding pants, than you can simply remove the bottom portion of the jackets zipper and re-attach it to any pair of pants.

Many of the woman’s jackets on the market just seem like a shrunken version of their male counterparts. However, AGV Sport has taken the time to design a true woman’s leather jacket.  The AGV Sport Venus Leather Jacket is well constructed and conforms to a woman’s’ body.  

Custom Made Italian Race Suits

Frederick, MD. September 7th, 2011. AGV Sports Group Inc, introduces an innovative website that allows riders to fully customize the finest Italian one-piece racing leathers on-line. These suits are hand crafted just outside of Milan, Italy.

This new site is one of a kind, and continues the company’s dedication to innovation in research and design. It is no secret riding leathers are a serious investment, which is why the company wants to provide the customer with as much control over design as possible. They begin with the highest quality hand crafted Italian leather, the same leather that overwhelms the starting grids of the World Superbike series and MotoGP World Championship. The suits are also available in Kangaroo leather, which is 25-30% lighter than its cowhide counterpart.  Current custom suit sites provide a few different color patterns or options to choose from, but http://cs.agvsport.com/ allows the rider to customize a suit from head to toe. A rider can match these suits to the bike they ride or the sponsors’ colors they run. This begins with 16 different color options to choose from, including bases, metals, and fluorescents. 

The suit displayed on the screen is divided into 11 sections, including four just from the knee to the ankle. The separate sections allow the user to create their own patterns by choosing a color for each section.  As the rider tries different color combinations, they can see their changes as they make them on the 3-dimensional rotating manikin. Here they are individually hand crafted at a plant using the latest techniques and technology to ensure the highest quality product possible.
